Modifying the Outline for Secondary School Educators in Orilia on oct 13
See the doc in our one day event google drive folder https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwuJdbm5VSSvNGdXSkRKNWxHVTg
All ideas and practices can be improved so I have modified the one day outline for this occasion and this group -secondary teachers.
I will be applying some experience I had with a group of 10 secondary teachers in the spring going through DOTS and turning it to them to explain to each other how they would use the particular strategy under consideration. got way more ideas than I woudl have generated.
Also I think the relatively new provocation for the institute is better than the one with chart paper outlined.
We end with a KBC on how we as professionals are gong to address the questions we generated -hopefully an inspiration for them to own their pd and an opportunity to offer some support for follow up -I woudl say if one of the gourp did follow u then I will call that success.
Now just have to modify the slide set and ready to go
cheers,
stan
First off -great group of secondary educators -very positive and open to if not practicing elements of transformative learning.!!!
ReplyDeleteModified this outline quite a bit .
-had an extra hour since we got the teaches right at 9:15 or so.
-did not really split into firt two parts -short break and rolled right through to Conventional and transformative chart and post in note activity
-then did exit card -good insights -some thought there was no EE being addressed !!!
-did a quick look at the principles behind transformative learning
-handed out dots and had small group reviews
-took them outside to look for local learning opportunities on cue from someone who said that getting out was a big headache -and we also needed the fresh air
-that was about it
-filled out comment form at end
-Judy set up the google drive folder for participants to share
First I would like also like to reiterate that it was a very positive group.
DeleteMost teachers sat with their colleagues but they were happy to mix it up during our "line up" (I prefer a circle) and the post it note (from the first provocation).
I certainly see the value of going outdoors but if the weather is challenging (as it may be in Winnipeg) then I prefer to save the outdoor portion to the follow up to DOTS.
I love the idea of begin able to walk our talk and change up the workshop as the group dynamics demands. I think I would prefer to begin with the provocation, move into the KBC and then to the Transformative vs Conventional teaching with some more discussion. The videos were a wonderful lead into this discussion.
The exit card was insightful.
I would like to spend a bit more time with DOTS either using the videos or one example from each group where they can find (see themselves) using one of the 7 strategies.
I would like to follow up by inviting them to add to the appropriate google doc in the participant's folder. Perhaps we can post something in each one that would bring them back to these folders... just a thought.
Participant reflections of note

ReplyDeleteI see that someone has added to the document on google drive "Contact info and what you would like to share". That is encouraging!
