Burlington -HDCSB 2 Day Institute
In this Institute I used 3 different 'strands' -DOTS, Transformative Practices, and Tools.
Adding 9 Tools such as Community Partners, and Rich Questions gave opportunity to more closely highlight and examine specific supports and ways into Inquiry. This seemed to give a broader look at Inquiry which participants appreciated.
Of particular concern remains the integration of Elementary and Secondary panels. Though there was much for and directed at the secondary people, they still see themselves totally restricted by timetabling and single subject teaching assignments (and in fact they are!). Perhaps an inquiry only for Secondary people would provide them with more creative thinking time to explore their specific issues. Though the secondary people at this institute seemed to gain a lot, the above issues still remained an impediment (in their minds) for full benefit.
This group were very eager to give thought to evolving practice and seemed quite anxious to get back and work in a new way with their students and each other. They 'bonded'!
